Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal bin Fadhil Alibrahim delivered the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s speech at the High-level Political Forum 2023 on Sustainable Development Goals at the UN, the Saudi Press reported.
The minister urged the forum that there is a shared purpose of accelerating the collective ability that supports each and every nation, and a genuine commitment to better and improve their common interests, pointing out that collaborations are sure to accelerate results.
“We recognise the interconnectedness of our world, where challenges transcend borders. For thousands of years the world has been getting ever more integrated. So, without collaboration, we will never solve the most complex global issues,” Alibrahim added.
“Saudi Arabia is on a momentous journey of transformation,” he said, adding that “by embedding the SDGs into our national program, championing innovation, investing in human capital development, and continuously applying these and other lessons learned, Saudi Arabia is reinforcing its commitment to a prosperous and sustainable future – both for our nation and for the world. We draw inspiration from HRH Crown Prince’s commitment to challenging conventional wisdom.”
Concluding his speech, Alibrahim explained that having a broadened perspective to the SDGs would be the ideal approach, one that reflects the interdependence of nations, embraces experimentation, and prioritises human capital. He encouraged that the present moment is opportune for bold, transformative, and collaborative steps, confident in the possibility of turning aspirations into reality, and creating “a world that future generations deserve to inherit”.
The High-level Political Forum has been held every year since 2015 under the auspices of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been participating in the annual forum since 2017.
