SNC-Lavalin, Jacobs and Jasara have been confirmed as Neom The Line partners. The international and local firms will support as delivery partners for the Saudi Arabian Neom gigaproject’s The Line linear city.
SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a five-year contract under a framework agreement for consultancy services on The Line.
In collaboration with Neom and other delivery partners, SNC-Lavalin will provide project and construction management consultancy services for the design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the project, together with the management of the critical interfaces that the linear city shares with adjacent Neom projects and logistics.
The project has adopted a highly collaborative delivery model in response to its scale, complexity, supply chain and requirements for innovation.
Jacobs said it, alongside Jasara, will provide project and construction management consultancy services for the design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of The Line.
They will also support with the management of the critical interfaces between it and adjacent Neom projects and logistics.
Who are the new Neom The Line partners?
Two of the new Neom The Line partners are internationally recognised engineering giants.
SNC-Lavalin is a fully integrated professional services and project management company.
Globally, SNC-Lavalin has developed the ‘Engineering Net Zero’ programme to help the engineering industry achieve net-zero carbon goals.
SNC-Lavalin’s Saudi offices are located in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Khobar.
Some of SNC-Lavalin’s key projects in Saudi Arabia include Diriyah Gate, Six Flags Qiddiya theme park, Riyadh Metro, and King Abdulaziz International Airport.
Jacobs is an engineering company with approximately $15 billion in annual revenue and a talent force of more than 60,000.
Jasara is a Jacobs, Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Saudi Aramco joint venture providing professional programme and construction management services for social infrastructure projects throughout Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East.
Neom The Line partners: reactions
“The Line is a truly ground-breaking, world-first project and we are proud to have the opportunity to bring our global engineering, digital and net-zero expertise to help create a lasting legacy for the kingdom and its people,” said Philip Hoare, president of engineering services in the UK & Europe, Middle East, India and Canada at SNC-Lavalin.
“As a delivery partner organisation, we will work closely with Neom and our partners to seamlessly connect people, data and technology to drive innovation, value, efficiency and certainty on the project.
“Our combined intent is to radically transform the way major infrastructure projects are delivered and The Line, with its vision and complexity, provides a great opportunity to demonstrate what our industry can achieve.”
Jacobs executive chair Steve Demetriou added: “The Line presents a vision for how people could live in the future.
“This project is intending to re-write the playbook on urban development to address some of the major environmental and quality of life challenges we often see in big cities. We are committed to helping deliver projects that aspire to completely reimagine urban living and rethink what it means to live in a more connected, sustainable world.”
What is The Line?
Neom has planned The Line to be a 170km futuristic linear city. The Line, once completed, is expected to run on 100% clean energy.
The Line will eventually accommodate 9 million residents and is being built on a land area of 34km2 – a footprint unheard of when compared to other cities of similar capacity.
Designs for The Line envision a ribbon of hyper-connected, mixed-use communities completely powered by clean energy, where residents rely on ultra-high-speed transit, autonomous and personal mobility solutions and walking to access essential daily services.
To deliver the vision, the project will embrace a range of new construction technologies, processes and materials.
Earlier in February, Parsons was confirmed as a delivery partner for The Line.
Parsons’ framework agreement for consultancy services on The Line includes project and construction management services for the design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the project.
