HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Chairman of the Council of Ministers and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, has launched the Master Plan for Logistics Centres, which aims to develop the infrastructure of the logistics sector, diversify the local economy, and enhance the kingdom’s position as a leading investment destination and a global logistics hub.
HRH the prince emphasised that the launch of the Master Plan for Logistics Centres is an extension of a series of ongoing initiatives in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services.
According to its objectives, the plan is designed to develop the logistics sector to support economic growth, boost local, regional and international connectivity for international trade networks and global supply chains, strengthen partnerships with the private sector, expand job opportunities, and consolidate the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub. The Kingdom’s strategic geographical location, connecting three of the world’s most important continents, Asia, Europe and Africa, further reinforces this position.
The Master Plan for Logistics Centres includes 59 centres with a total area exceeding 100 million sq m. This includes 12 logistics centres for the Riyadh region, 12 for the Makkah region, 17 for the Eastern Province, and 18 centres in the rest of the Kingdom’s regions.
Currently, work is underway on 21 centres, with the aim of completing all centres by 2030. The centres will enable local industries to export Saudi products with high efficiency, support e-commerce by facilitating connectivity between logistics centres and distribution zones within the Kingdom’s regions, cities and provinces. Furthermore, they will provide advanced tracking capabilities, and expedite the issuance of logistics activity licenses, especially after the launch of the unified logistics license, the granting of licenses to more than 1,500 local, regional and international logistics companies, and launching the two-hour customs clearance initiative.
